LG 900g Protective Case Covers Use coupon 1fatoff for $1.00 off 2 case purchase.

Finally, a  Net10 phone that offers you tons of functionality to take advantage of their new $25 and $50 Unlimited rates. The LG 900 uses the ever popular QWERTY monoblock form factor.  The highlight of this phone is the FULL html browser, a first on a Net10 phone. While there will be no official “app store”, the LG 900 if fully capable of running apps by way of Java applications.

The cool thing about apps on this phone is that they can be had for free from sites like getjar.com. There will be a trick to this, however, because the LG 900g is a rename of the European LG GW300. So when searching for apps be sure to use GW300 for your search. You will find tons of apps like Facebook, Twitter and GMail apps. Very cool and all free.

In conclusion, the LG 900g is quite a nice phone and certainly the best Net10 handset thus far.  The LG900g is an excellent reason to stay with Net10.  With this phone, you can enjoy a feature rich handset while taking advantage of the best rates around.  This will be an excellent phone to go along with the  $25, 750 minute plan.  See if the LG 900g is Available in Your Area. One way that works –
1.Go to getjar.com and get the quick download # of the app you want.
2.Go to http://www.opera.com/mobile/demo/ and use the opera mini demo to download the jad file.
    3. Open the .jad file in notepad and you will see the download link. Open it in your PC’s browser and it will download the jar file.
    4. Copy the jar file to your phone via usb or bluetooth and install.
    Tedious but effective.

Sure, you’re welcome…Yes, Tracfone and Net10 are one in the same company. You don’t want an R451 as it’s an older inferior phone. As I said in the previous comment, I would start by getting the card replaced. I doubt it’s the phone.

    October 4th, 2011 at 02:33 | #6

Odds are, the card is bad. Those damage easily. I doubt it’s the phone. I would start by getting the card exchanged or replaced before trying to get a replacement phone.

BTW, I forgot to say thank you, Dwight. I appreciate your help. Now I’m going to try to help people by telling them what happened when I called 1 (800) 626-4883 which was recommended somewhere on the web as a quick connect to customer care for Net Ten (it’s actually Trac Fone…they’re connected somehow). As with others I found the rep to be even less knowledgeable than ME! (Kind of unbelievable) He offered to send me a new phone and I would lose all except the 8 minutes I had used already plus I would lose almost 3 months of service. The information was not offered to me. After reading all these blogs, etc., I was wise enough to know to ask. In addition, he would only replace the phone and not the 4gb memory card which he thought was defective. So, the phone is good, the memory card is defective and he offers to replace the phone?!? He says Walmarrtt sold me the phone so they are responsible for replacing the memory card. In the end he offers to send me another phone I had never heard of…an R451c? I tell him I’ll have to research it. I’m not finding any such phone. Oh well.

Whenever I try to access the “external memory” via settings and option 6 “Memory Info” it just gets skipped over. That option is in gray while the active ones are in black. Same problem when I go to “My Folder” and option 7, “Memory Card”. So I can’t format the card at all…unless the phone is defective?

Cant think of any other than try holding down the power button for a couple secs then let it go. If you keep it held down, it will not turn on.

  10. dwight
    October 2nd, 2011 at 19:32 | #10

To check the memory, go to Menu->Settings->Memory Info , the External Memory option will be enabled. If it is enabled, select it and if you’ve never used it before it might be a good idea to format it so select the Format option. After you’ve done that, back out to the Memory Info options and select Primary Storage Setting, select External Memory to make the SD card the primary storage location. As for blocking Texts, I do not see a way to block those. For your Voicemail, try calling it by holding down the 1 , it will tell you if it’s setup or not.

How do you know if your 4GB Memory card (that came included with my bundle from Walmart and was already in the phone) is working? I can’t seem to find any verification that it is as all the info I find on the memory is no where near 4GB. Do I have to format it or something like that? If so, does anyone know how? Also, I got a text message (advertisement)and got charged to open it…didn’t know who it was from; don’t want this to happen in the future. Anyway to block those? And lastly, I set up the voicemail and then I got a text message asking me to set up voicemail a few days later (minutes were deducted for that as well). Any advice on what I’m doing wrong?

Unlikely that it’s got anything to do with the phone. That sounds like a customer service issue. They probably just need to reset your features.

I have had the LG900 Net10 phone for almost 2 months now and I have not had any problems sending pictures or videos via text message until a few days ago. Now every time I try to send a picture or video via text message I get that “Not enough memory. Please delete multimedia” message. So I deleted over half of my pictures and videos, and even purchased a 4GB SD card, and I STILL get that “Not enough memory. Please delete multimedia” message! HELP…what do I do to fix this?

Your mp3 ringtones files can’t be any larger than 300k. I have learned to make my own custom. I use three programs Music editor Free (download).you can go to, for example, to youtube and record any sound off the site but when it is saved in the wrong format. I use this site to convert back to mp3 http://media.io/progress.jsp;jsessionid=C2DBF2F9A87A54F0ADE02B63DD5310FB.
online conversion and free. if the file is still too big i use MP3 Quality Modifier to make it smaller. I know it sounds a lot of work but easy once you learn how. btw you usually can’t use the entire song, just the part you like best.

Hey I jst bought the same phone u bought the Lg900ghl and I cannot 4 the life of me figure out the mp3 player works…So im wondering if u have or had the same problem??? IDK but I no 1 thing is 4 sure that this phone has really really bad memory.

  26. August 27th, 2011 at 11:48 | #26

I have this particular phone, whoever wrote this memo I dnt think has this phone. U had mentioned that this is the best NET10 cell out n the market…I dnt see how that can be, honestly becuase ive had this phone for a lil more than 2 wks and I already have problems wit it. So hopefully by sending u this memo something will b done about it..since u r claiming this is the best phone. But for starters my memory on my phone is horrible, I can not download mp3 full length songs. Thats a bummer so I now have to go out and I’m thinkn get a memory card, which isnt cool. So now on top of me buying this phone I have to now go and purchase a memory card. 4 some one like me who is a server and pretty much dnt get paid hardly anything. I honestly dont even think this phone has an mp3 player, every time I’m thinking I got the full song its only like mayb 40 secs of the song. But anyways I’m only sending this e-mail to u because I was actually lookin up how 2 download songs on my brand of phone and u caught my eye, when you said its the best phone from NET 10, If it is Id sure hate to have the worst phone from Net 10. That’s actually a form of false advertisement. Just sayin

Is anyone else having tons of issues with this phone? I can’t take pictures anymore (no my handset memory isn’t full, neither is my SD card), my current minutes aren’t being shown (it’s stuck showing “0” days left, but it’s still counting down minutes from like 3 months ago, even though I’ve added cards since then) and a few other things I’m forgetting now. I haven’t been able to reach anyone in customer service who can help, either. I’m about to give up on this phone and go back to Verizon or something, because this is turning out to be a piece of crap.

I’ve had my LG900g for three weeks now and I have nothing but great things to say about it. My last ATT&T phone was the LG Shine and it worked well during the entire length of the 2-year contract, so I trusted the LG brand. Mine is a Net10 phone and it was easy to register and set up.

To set a alarm go to tools then alarms then edit undernieth the date and time put the slide bar as set time then push numbers to the time u want, then the day then make sure alarm ring is highlighted then push done..

Opera Mini has some cool apps. when you go to google you can choose just moble sites when you ask google for something on the search field. so Google operamini in the mobile mode.

Another trick is when a page takes to long to load just hit cancel once and it will give the page but not everything is buffered of course.

You also need a signed version of Opera heres where i think i went. Otherwise youll get a popup that says its untrusted and it happens sumtimes 5 times a minute.

Save your Vids to a SD card and transfer to your PC or laptop. If you have a data cable ‘USB’ that hooks up to your phone and pc or labtop thats easy to do just make sure you have you connections set to mass storage in the settings field on your cell. You can music on this way to. Ive got 2000 songs on my LG900g.

And if your roaming forget using the web. Otherwise this phone is worth the price and has great reception. I live in SE Minnesota.

So now My problem is with the lg900g is when i make a call no one can hear me. I can hear them though. so now my phone is for texting only. Ive reset it tried earphones. Plug it in my stereo. Im pissed but it is a cheap wannabe smartphone

Bought this phone today and like it thus far. One thing I seem to be having trouble with, is the facebook app when it comes to using the places feature or “checking in”. When I hit check it, it will go to a page that says loading and stay there forever like it is frozen while using all my minutes. Anyone else have this issue and is there a resolution to make it work?

When I use LG900G with NET 10 I get a distortion about every 20-40 seconds when I am talking to someone over the phone. Is this distortion due to the phone or the network this phone runs on?? Thanks in advance !!

The apps don’t use up minutes to install. You download the app to your computer then transfer it to the phone. You need an SD card and a compatible usb cable. You can download the apps from getjar.com ( use model lg gw300 when it asks you which phone you have). Transfering the files from your computer to the phone is just like transfering files using a usb thumb drive. The phone, with sd card installed, will show as an external drive on your computer. Then, it is just a matter of dragging from your pc to the phone. Don’t try to download the app directly from the phone because it will not work.

There’s more to the net10 service to simply unlocking the sim. All of the phones have internal software that’s used for controlling the minutes you can use it. They also control activation based on ESN not sim. Their system is pretty tight so there’s no real way you can use a non Net10 phone on net10 service. Some people have successfully done it on Straight Talk but that’s a completely different system.

Buy a usb cord for your phone it will not only charge your phone from the computer but as soon as you plug it in it will open up the folders on the phone. You can open your desktop on your computer and select music and drag and drop right into the music folder on the phone. This is the easiest and fastest way to do this.

this phone is horrible. It started messing up after the first week i got it. The texts start showing up as weird looking conversations u never typed it turnes off and on alot by itself itll say battery is full then like an hour later turns off and wont come back on for a few minutes then says u need to charge the battery even though u just took it off the charger. When i inserted a different memory card it deleted all my pictures. When i use the web it will say insufficient memory and leave the web the best browser is bolt and opera but u have to download them from getjar.com when im on the phone and someone ese is calling me it wont beep or show u that someone is calling u, u will see the missed call when u hang up. I have had nothing but trouble with this phone since i bought it which is why i bought me a samsung unlocked touch screen phone and i love it. Ive always had problems with lg phones but never had problems with a samsung. This lg phone is the last lg phone that i have bought because i will never buy an lg phone again.

Minutes/activation are performed by what’s called “OTA” or “over the air activation”. Sounds like your phone didn’t get the “OTA” transaction. Try turning it off for a min then back on. If still nothing, wait a couple hours and if you don’t see your mins call cust. svc as they will either have you enter the code manually or resend the transaction.

no, but I can give you a suggestion which you can try at your own risk…Go to auto parts store and get like 1500 grit sand paper, rubbing compound and polishing compound, the turtle wax $5 variety works well..Wet the sandpaper and sand the screen real good to get as many scratches as you can. Then rub it real good with the rubbing compound, that will clear up the screen considerably, then finish with the polishing compound. Should get all but real deep scratches. I have used this method on clear plastics and it works well.

I have the same problem with my LG 900g. I have found that I can only install 35 apps before it says “Not Enough Space Available”. I still have plenty of available space. I have switched out different apps and still the limit is 35. I’m a little sad about it because I’m kind of an app hog. I can still put them on my micro SD and delete the apps or games when I’m not using them and install them when I want to. That way I have access to my 100+ apps I have on my phone when I’m out and about.

there is no single email app that will work for all email, like say an iPhone. With this phone, you basically save a shortcut to your email access url and access it via the browser. You can also find email “apps” on getjar.com that are nothing more than shortcut to whatever email you use. These can be more convenient as you can access the link through the apps without launching the browser. These are only available for popular emails like gmail, yahoo, etc.

No, it is part of the plan. The message just lets you know that it is connecting to the internet and that it will deduct minutes accordingly if not on the unlimited plan.

Yep: Menu – Tools – Quick Menu – and assign them as you want.

Still loving my 900g, the 4G memory card (I got the package from Walmart) died after less than 10 days of using it. I spent 2+ hours on the phone with tech support, trying to make them comprehend I wasn’t having problems with the SIM card (which had already been replaced) but the memory card. Of course, after nearly 3 hours nothing was done, they still didn’t understand, and I called back the corporate number for support (800 876 5753) and finally got someone (still in India, unfortunately) that sortakinda understood what I meant.

But again, no actual anything useful. The girl said they don’t replace the memory cards but they would send me an entirely new phone that should have a memory card already preinstalled – the Walmart phones are like that, with the LG branded 4GB microSD card preinstalled. That was 4 days ago and I still haven’t heard a peep, still haven’t received a tracking number from FedEx like I did when I got the SIM card replaced, and so I wait for them to get around to “something” soon.

It’s a good phone, really, the best NET10 one I’ve owned and used so far, but I still want a proper Android one and I’m sure that’s not going to happen. Guess I’ll have to drop NET10 at some point and pick some other local provider, get a true Android phone, and then cough up $50/month for unlimited service. Big difference from paying ~$15/month as I have for 5+ years now, but that’s what will have to happen.

Radio Shack has (or at least used to have) a back door customer service hotline to Tracfone/Net10 which used to be answered by Americans in FL. At the very least, the agents that answer this queue should be of a higher caliber. Radio Shack is a high value customer to TracFone/Net10 so they will probably have better customer service on their hot line. See if you can get Radio Shack to call for you and resolve the matter.

    April 12th, 2011 at 06:52 | #202

I’ve had the 900g for several months now. Some of these things have been answered before but I thought I’d list the 4 or 5 main problems most folks seem to have.
The FIRST thing to do is download Opera Mini or Bolt web browser. The default browser is nearly useless. I have Mini 6, BOLT, and UC Browser on my phone, just Opera Mini 6 on my wife’s. We also have Google Maps (works great- get the .jar version) Also go to Mippin and get Ultimate Video App (its a shortcut and runs in the original browser). It will stream and/or download from a number of websites. They even have a Top Ten list of videos from youtube that can be viewed and downloaded. They update this about every other day. If you work at it you can usually get mippin to play about half the videos you’d like for it to play. There may be other sites that do as well or better, once this met my needs I felt no need to look further.
Instead of apps you’re better off in my opinion using Opera Mini. For those familiar w/ Opera on PC it has a Start Page with 9 icons that access the websites of your choice, and access them as Mobile pages or access the full webpage just as you’d see it in a PC browser. It will save your username and password for each site so its just like having all your fav apps on one page. And Opera does tabbed browsing (at the top like Opera 11 and Firefox 4) it’s great to have 4-5 pages open at the same time.
The only other thing that comes to mind is download the LG GW300 userguide a 5.9 mb pdf that fully covers the phones functions(incl. some that have been removed from the Net10 phone). And dig deep at getjar.com. If it is a .jar file theres a chance it’ll work on the 900g even if it doesnt say it will. Also, get used to hitting “OK” twice because some apps will warn they are untrusted every time they attempt to access the net. OK last thing, some games will go online to pull down ads, updates, userdata, etc. This can eat up your minutes really quick if you’re using the 750 minute plan. I bought a $50 card my first month so I could download stuff and tinker w/ the phone. Since then we buy $25 cards for both phones and get by just fine.I did have to buy a new card in 25 days last month because of heavy browser and Google Maps use during a vacation. You can buy cards online from independent retailers usually for a 1-3% discount, no state taxes and some have points programs that get you a larger discount or even a free card if you buy enough. Hope this answers a few folks questions.

    Two questions:
When I send a photo to another cell number, I am being charged 2.50 when I push “Send” and another 1.00 when message comes back that it was “Sent”. Does that seem right???
Also, when I try sending photo to an email address, I get the “Sent” message but the photo never shows up in my laptop inbox. Am I doing something wrong??

Oops, made a slight booboo there with the specs: the video stream is h.264 encoded, not h.264, sorry. Even though it’s claimed the 900g can play h.264 files, I’ve yet to be able to get it to read any h.264 video streams I’ve created. Just wanted to clarify that aspect…

    April 6th, 2011 at 18:51 | #210

Just in case someone else might wish to see the quality of the videos you can put on the 900g, try this one that I just made, a chapter from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (it has the subtitles burned into the video because my Wife is deaf, she requires captions/subs). It’s 2:22 long, about 10MB in size, mp4 format (h.264 video stream, AAC 128Kbps stereo audio):

I think it turned out just fine, it’s very watchable, and even in spite of the text (for the subs) being somewhat small, the Wife has better close-up vision than I do. Hey, it’s not the best thing in the universe, that’s a given, but at least we CAN put videos on the 900g, in decent and watchable quality without having to resort to the rather limited 3GP video encoding methodology which just looks like crap, period.

    Works for me. 😀

    April 6th, 2011 at 16:44 | #211

Well, I finally got one yesterday. Got it home, put some music on it and was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the audio – like I said in a previous post, the audio quality for use as an “mp3 player” is very important to me and the LG 900g doesn’t disappoint. It drives my Koss KSC-75 earclips very well, even the Koss earbuds I have too (those are more like earplugs which block outside sounds). But the quality of the audio is quite high, so it was definitely worth the $30.

I got the Walmart version with the 4GB microSD card (that’s worth $10 itself) and it was a good purchase. Found a microUSB cable on eBay for $.01 (yes, 1 cent) + $2.98 shipping and it’s from a company that I’ve purchased products from in the past so I know it’ll be here in a few days.

My one gripe: I called and did the transfer from one of the NET10 numbers to this new phone almost 12 hours ago and it’s still not active. The phone shows it’s got the number now, it shows the minutes transferred over, the service date was bumped 60 more days (which came in handy since I only had 10 left) and I’ve got a signal (5 bars since I’m about 1 block from a cell site), but still no active service that I can use. Bleh, so I’m calling NET10 to see what’s up. Probably just need to be more patient.

Haven’t loaded any apps or games on it yet, but I did drop a video I made on it, an mp4 file I created using an app called EncodeHD, looks great and works fine, so now I have high hopes I can do some DVD conversions too. The screen is the same resolution as an iPod Classic so it should be able to handle videos just fine.

Definitely the best phone NET10 has yet come out with – but I still want Android. :)

It took me quite a while to figure it out. Go to “Settings”, select “Profiles”, select “Options” (left soft key), select “Edit”, scroll down to “Vibrate alert”, it is factory set at “Off”, use side arrow key to “On”, press “Done” (right soft key) – now it vibrates when you use silent mode.

I just got the LG900 from Radio Shack for $20 (had a $10 rebate from doing a survey on a previous purchase, plus bought the $50 unlimited month). This is my first “smartphone”. For the price, this phone is really nice. It’s basically a PDA with a phone built in. My only complaints so far are the headset volume (speakerphone is fine) and the minute-minder beep that I can’t seem to find a way to shut off.

I’ve installed a few Java games from getjar.com and they work fairly well. Some stuff (especially anything graphically intensive) probably won’t work so well, your mileage may vary.

If you’re like me and don’t like contract phone, and want a decent entry level smartphone, this is probably the best deal going right now. An Android phone it ain’t, but at this price, who can complain? I’m just glad to be able to check the weather, mail, news, and be able to search Google and use Facebook on the go.

    I’d give the phone a 3.5 – 4 out of 5 for what it is – a cheap smartphone.

BTW – camera quality isn’t bad, so long as you’re within 3 feet and the lighting’s good, otherwise, fogiddaboutit. As for the video camera function – don’t waste the energy to push the button – it isn’t worth it. Just my 2c

I would love to have an android phone + my Net10 account. I love the cost of net10 – no contest with anyone else. Virginwireless has a 5 cents a minute, but you have to pay 50 a month for that. Come on Net10, get into the 20th century!!! We want YOU, but we also want an ANDROID.

    br0adband :
Did some checking into that Virgin Mobile thing and, well, it ain’t all it’s cracked up to be but that’s nothing new. I’ve had NET10 just over 5 years now, overall I’m satisfied with the service and the cost, I just wish they’d let me use an Android powered device with their service, or they’d get one. Sooner or later they most likely will, but they’re so slow at bringing new phones into their service it’s not even funny.
I really would love to switch to someone else just for an Android powered device I can “hack” some goodies onto but, there’s just nobody else out there that has a plan close to the $15/month I’ve been spending for 5+ years now ($30 card every 60 days for each of my 2 NET10 phones).
Come on NET10, get some Android device with a big huge screen – I’ve got an HTC HD2 that I don’t even use as a phone (more a portable media player with a 4.3″ screen) and I’d love to be able to use it with NET10. Guess it ain’t gonna happen.

I just picked up the optimus v last night all I can say is WOW the 3 G works great in my area no problems at all.It is 25 a month with this phone 300 mins talk and web data messaging all unlimited. There is all kinds of free apps in the market place on this phone.Highly recommend. My daughter now has my Lg 900 perfect phone for her.Yes the optimus v is more expensive but I like it alot.

Net10 phones aren’t the best but it’s the best prepaid service. I don’t know if net10 will have androids but i am pretty sure Straight Talk will soon. You are never going to find another prepaid service where you can have an android phone and only pay $15 a mo. Yes, other prepaid providers have Android phones but their plans are all high and/or they have very limited coverage.

I had the same problem trying to download the opera mini. What you are going to have to do is get a data cable(usb cord). You download app to the computer then go to “My computer” and access downloads. You will see the app there. Go to http//:saveonprepaidphones.com/lg900g_file_transfer_data_cable This is a video tutorial of how to transfer files successfully. This is what I did, I went to settings on the phone then scrolled down to connectivity and selected it. Then I scrolled to usb and selected it(before you have the usb cord connected). Then you will see “Mass storage”, select that, then connect the usb. I then went to my computer and clicked downloads and found the app(opera). I then went back in and selected My computer again and you should see devices with removable storage and it should say “disks”. Provided you have a memory card, you’ll have 2. One is phone memory and the other sd memory. You will note that the sd memory is larger. I went back to downloads and right clicked and I selected the “send to” option and selected removable disk f which is my sd card. It may be different letters for you but as long as you see “removable storage” you are good. Go to My folder on phone and scroll to #6 other files and you will see it there. Click on it and follow the prompts.

No problems with charging. If you have a micro usb data cable (like one from a Kindle, digital cams, etc) you can try charging it by plugging up to pc usb port to make sure it’s not the phone. For Opera mini, you can download using your PC ( Opera Mini Download) . With same micro usb cable as above, you can then transfer the jar file to the phone as it will show as an external drive on your pc. Here are some how tos..

I’m at a loss on that one..Your numbers look like mine and I only have a couple of apps. When I clear the System memory it deletes my apps so figured that had something to do with it. Since that’s obviously not it, the phone must have some sort of other internal configuration that restricts the number of apps. I looked at the WURFL file for the LG GW300 (same phone model as lg900) which contains all the config info for the phone but did not find anything referring to an app limit. Sorry man, not sure what else it can be.

One more thing: When I tried to install another Java App, it also said “Not enough space available”.

So what does all of this mean?

When you look at the memory stats, you can see that there is plenty of space on both the internal and external memory (even where Java Apps are stored in System Memory because it was originally @ 3.9MB before I moved 2MB of applications to external memory (afterwards Java Apps read 1.9 MB).

Even after I reduced the System Memory, I still couldn’t add more apps.

So where is there “Not enough space available” for more Java Apps even after I increased System Memory by 2MB?

Did you check common memory and reserved memory in the Settings menu? Were they maxed out? If so, then you will probably not be able to install more without uninstalling existing apps because that memory is not expandable. The sd card provides expanded storage but the memory is what the memory is. I know for a fact that the common and reserved memory are somehow used for app storage because I cleared mine out and it deleted all apps.

    @ Dwight:

Below is the Memory Info stats in the settings menu. As you will see, they are not maxed out at all (they are barely touched).

  286. br0adband
    March 24th, 2011 at 16:12 | #286

    @Laurie Jones

Ok, that’s what I needed to “hear” from someone – and going back and re-reading dwight’s comment, I think I may have misinterpreted what he said at the end and he meant that he couldn’t tell the difference between the iPhone and the 900G when listening with headphones, NOT just the speaker output.

I guess I’ll grab one and hope for the best. I’m pretty picky about audio playback quality and have been dealing with mp3 players aka “DAPs” (Digital Audio Players) for many years. Sound quality is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to me even if 99% of the rest of you wouldn’t notice a difference.

If you could or have heard the Motorola EM326g (from NET10) in terms of plugging in headphones and listening to a really high bitrate mp3, you’d immediately wonder what the hell was wrong with the audio circuit because it really is that bad – it’s like listening to a crystal radio set, something I’m positive most of you (if not all of you) have no idea about, but maybe there’s one or two of you that’s as old as I am and might.

So, we’ll see what happens. I’ll get a 900G later today and review it myself in terms of audio quality. I can’t find it listed at Walmart’s website so I’m hoping they do stock that bundle package for $30 with the 4GB card in it locally.

    Have fun, always…

  287. Laurie Jones
    March 24th, 2011 at 14:56 | #287

    @ Broadband…
If you listen to your music (radio or songs u have on ur LG900)on headphones, the sound is superior and probably better than a MP3 player. I had an MP3 player and am no longer using it. If u r interested in buying the LG900 as far as sound quality for any music and a phone combo, do it!

  288. br0adband
    March 24th, 2011 at 06:02 | #288

Well, I meant strictly from the headphone jack as I have no requirements to “listen” to music or whatever through that tiny speaker, that’s absurd. 😀

So, nobody can comment on how it sounds when you use it like a regular old mp3 player… guess I’ll pass on this one and hope NET10 gets something better soon.

  289. dwight
    March 24th, 2011 at 03:50 | #289

The sd card is storage not memory. The phone has to used internal memory. Check to see what that’s at by going to Settings->memory info check common memory and reserved memory. Those might be maxed out. There is an option to clear but if you do I believe it will wipe out your apps.

  290. dwight
    March 24th, 2011 at 03:46 | #290

I would classify the sound quality through the external speaker as good. I have a work iPhone to compare with and I would say the sound quality on speaker on lg900 is comparable to that of the iPhone with slight advantage to iPhone simply because of speaker placement. If i connect headphones, I cannot tell the difference between the two.

Can anyone comment on the audio quality when listening to mp3 files? I grabbed the EM326g when it was first out, what a disappointment that one turned out to be. No matter how “loud” I crank the volume, it’s just horrendous. As this is the closest NET10 will come to a “smartphone” for a long time to come – I wish they’d get an Android device of some kind, that would rule – I’m really interested in the audio quality. If it’s crappy, like the EM326g is, I’m going to pass.

So if anyone could be so kind as to offer an opinion or whatever, I would greatly appreciate it. Considering two of these as I have two NET10 phones already, had service for 5+ years now and I’m happy with it and the cost ($30 every 60 days), I am disappointed in NET10 behind so far behind the curve on the phone selections.

But I don’t want to keep carrying two devices – a phone in one hand (hate it in my pocket on in a belt-clip/case) and the mp3 player in the other. So the audio quality and output (in terms of volume) are rather important before I spring for two new phones.

    Hi Trisha,

Here’s what you do with either method, after you attach the file it shows you a cursor at the bottom of the screen. It looks like it wants you to type something but just ignore it and click send. When you click send, it takes you to the address book. If you don’t have the email or number in the address book, just click the Ok button without typing anything. You will actually see that it says Number right above it. You can now type in the email address. It will say Recipients and have a little person icon.

Distorted caller – blown speaker sound:

Has anyone experienced distorted sound when listening through the handset earpiece (not the external speaker)?

Sometimes when someone is talking to me their voice gets distorted and it sounds like the lg900g has a blown speaker. So I lower the volume to get rid of the distortion, but then I can’t hear the caller.

Hello Dwight, thank you so much for your response. I tried the first method and first saved it as a draft, but when I try to send it I get a message “no recipient selected”…then I tried the second method but I get a message “no matching name” when I type in the email address…I am confused.

To send files, go to messages, select Create New message, select Options then Insert and click Ok. It will give you Options on what to attach, such as Images, Video and several other. You can also send by going to the menu, selecting My Folder, select the sub folder which contains the file you want to send, highlight the file, click Options, then Send, then Message…The downside is the phone has size limits on different file types.

Key tone can be turned off easily without turning off other sounds...here is how
Vibrate can be turned off/on…Here is how. Can also turn silent on/off by pressing the J key.
Message can be deleted with 2 key presses. Highlight message, click bottom half of right round key (one with C/padlock icon) and ok to confirm delete
    Agreed on image size.

I just brought this phone and I thought it was nice, and it really is but here are the downfalls.
CANNOT Change the key beeping at all without silencing the entire phone.
DOESN’T have vibration mode or any key sound controls.
TAKES to many pushes to delete messages. Click this first, then that, then this….
CONSTANTLY saying image size is too large. So you have to re-size most pics to fit in contacts even after using the phones camera to take them.

But if these aren’t a problem it really is a nice, clear, large screen and very loud phone haha… Meaning the sound works better than any phone I’ve owned.

Here is how to turn off key tone Turning Off Key tone. As for the recording volume, i do not believe the phone has a setting to adjust this. I don’t see where you can even tell what current level is. Are you seeing a little phone icon with a level bar on it while on recorder? If so, that is the phone memory not the recording volume.

go to the My Folder icon, scroll down to #7 memory card and select. You should see some folders there and have the ability to create new ones by clicking options and selecting Create new folder. You can also go to Settings menu, select #6 Memory Info, scroll to #4 External Memory. You should see your total memory there. You can also format the card from there if needed.

He didn’t find a Net10 smartphone because one does not exist. So if someone did find a “better” phone it wasn’t with Net10 because this is the best they got . You might be able to find a Straight Talk Nokia e71 or 6790 but those phones are 4x the money though the calling plan is just as good.

Conclusion, if you want a smartphone, look elsewhere , pay more on the phone and more on the calling plan. If you want a good phone and want to save every month, then go with the LG.

  340. dwight
    March 15th, 2011 at 14:40 | #340

Net10 doesn’t have a smart phone period. So there is no “better” Net10 phone and there is no better Prepaid phone at this price and there certainly is no better prepaid service plan, period.

Anyhow, nothing wrong with this phone. Sounds like your expectations were that of a smartphone which this is not and don’t believe anyone ever claimed it to be.

A little low on bars at my house, but I live in the boonies. Once you get closer into town, it’s better. The only phones you can do streaming video are the Straight Talk e71 and 6790 by nokia but they are way more than this phone. This phone does not do streaming video. Other than that it is a pretty good phone. As far as availability on Straight Talk goes, the LG comes and goes. I think they may be out of stock right now. Same for the Nokias mentioned above. If the the Net10 one shows for your area then the Straight talk ones will work as well. Check your local Walmart as they may have the Nokias and/or LG for Straight Talk.

Can you still use videos and the like if you have this phone for Straight Talk? Also, where the heck do you buy it for ST? I’ve checked the site and I can’t find it, but maybe it’s just not available in my area yet. I tried looking on the Net10 site and used my zip and all that, and it still turned the phone up, so I’m guessing I CAN use it for Net10 around here.

Anyway, if I DO find it/get it for ST, can you still use the video? I haven’t seen other ST phones that do videos, but I haven’t been looking long (just a day or so).

Overall, would you recommend this phone?

Just activated this phone a couple of days ago and I already hate it. It’s not intuitive at all and when I tried to find a manual for it I discovered that LG doesn’t support this phone. Even more digging I finally discover it was meant for the Australia / New Zealand market and was brought here by trac because it was cheaper for them. I still don’t know what it’s memory card capacity is or what size ringtones it will digest.
Other complaints; Display too dim, Sound too faint.
Unless Net10 really impresses me with their service, I’ll be history when the airtime runs ouot.

I found the answer to my 2nd question (using Net10’s sim card on an unlocked GSM phone)from Howard Forum and here it is in quotes: “In order for a phone to to be activated on Net10, the phone’s ESN (serial number) needs to be in the Net10 database. This means that the phone was sold by Net10 for use on the Net10 system. So you can do all the hacking and apping you want on whatever phone you want and you will not get it into the Net10 system UNLESS you change the ESN of the phone. Which is illegal.”

why does my phone have a E beside the signal bars?

  380. dwight
    March 5th, 2011 at 02:05 | #380

There are size restrictions on both ring tones and pictures. For pictures, the phone should tell you that it is too big and to resize when you send. It will give you a Message Capacity msg, click yes then select to resize. Size limit on images seems to be around 50 kb. It will resize for you then send. For ringtones, the size is about 250kb, anything large than that and you will get an exceed capacity msg. If the sizes are ok or you arent getting the msg capacity msg, then there is something wrong with you mms messaging. You will probably need to call customer service, could be something with mms not active on your number or a sim card issue. Just tell customer service that your mms messaging is not working.

If you wish to have vibrate only and silence: SETTINGS>PROFILES Position highlight on CUSTOMISED 1. OPTIONS>RENAME Rename to something else like Silent & Vibrate. OPTIONS>EDIT Change RING VOLUME to as low as it will go. Do same to MESSAGE VOLUME. Turn KEY TONE to NO SOUND. CONFIRMATION TONE to OFF. START-UP SOUND to OFF. Select DONE.

    Melissa Italiano :
thank you i figured it out but now i need to no why all the apps and games dont work on my phone.

I believe that 5% or 10% of the apps I have tried from http://www.getjar.com work fully. It may be a little higher than that. All I know to do is to download the apps, transfer them to the phone, install them and try them out. I have about 6 apps on my phone which fully work. I have had no luck installing apps which access memory on the SD card or which use Bluetooth. I paid $10 for the premium version of Crypticwallet (a password manager) which was supposed to be able to output data to the SD card and use Bluetooth. The developer worked hard to try to get it to work, with no luck. I just use the basic version on my LG 900G.

    The apps I use are:
CWME Cryptic Wallet – password manager
Fuel Consumption – metric fuel use program (not very good)
    Opera Mini 5.1 – browser
    Tiny Ninja Beta – game
    MicroCalc – spread sheet
News24 – News app- mostly geared to another country – will probably remove

I had a defective LG 900G I took back. I had downloaded a number of games at $4.99 each (in minutes) from Net10 in the browser which all worked and were quite nice. I also downloaded 3 Ring tones from Net10. I lost all of the content when I exchanged the phone. I am not sure I will obtain apps or ring tones that way again because of the chance of losing them if I have to exchange the phone again.

Take a micro USB cable and plug the big end into the computer and the small micro end into the top of the phone. When the phone asks, select mass storage. You can find the phone storage (memory) and the micro SD card on “My Computer” or “Windows Explorer”. On my computer, the micro SD card is drive F and the phone is drive G. This will possibly vary by computer. Check “Properties” to determine by size which is which. I hope this is helpful. What else would you like to know?

this has nothing to do with memory card or the plan. In fact, you don’t even need a memory card for the apps. The apps need to be downloaded on your computer then transferred to the phone either by data cable or usb dongle. This videos show you exactly what you need to do

I think the Net10 unlimited plan (actually 50,000 minutes) is $50. It should behave the same way as the 300 minute plan. EXCEPT that with the 300 minute plan you can download ring tones and games from Net10 and the cost will be deducted from your accumulated minutes. With the unlimited plan, I think you have to use a credit card.

What is it you are concerned about with the games and apps?

I love net 10. was a net ten user for about 5 years . I use to tell people that net 10 has the best plan out of any prepaid plans out there but I got to tell you switching to virgin mobile was the best thing I ever did. I get unlimited text and data. The only thing I miss is the rollover min and the .10 411. Do yourselves a favor switch to virgin, paylo has more min for less money and beyond talk has android phones and blackberry and I’m paying 5 dollars less than I was paying with Net 10 for the same amount of min. I would pay30.00 for 300 min a month with net 10. I’m paying 25 dollars a month for 300 min and unlimited everything else now, and I have a cool phone

Hello robert, the only way you will see a name with the number is to have that person saved as one of your contacts with the number (most calls show area code with the number so program it this way) other wise it’ll show up unknown if they are not saved as a contact or if they are and they call you and you save the number without the area code the it’ll just show their number w/o area code and it still won’t show their name.

Hmmm, that is interesting. According to the Net10 terms of service, they deduct 1 unit per text on that plan. Did she transfer service from another phone? They used to charge a reduced rate for the previous QWERTY phones but discontinued it when they introduced the new $25 plan. Mine deducts at 1 unit and it was a brand new activation. I would call customer service and ask, though I would not mention the Wife’s phone just in case it’s a mistake.

  449. dwight

    @Melissa Italiano
Unless they are something other than mp3s then they should have the Play option available and the Use As under Options to use as ringtone. About the only other thing I would try is to reformat the sdcard. If that does not work, then I would say you have a bad phone. The phone should automatically recognize them as mp3s and play them. Does the phone show the .mp3 after the file name?

The best way to do it is to go to getjar on your pc. For the phone, pick LG GW300. You can then start downloading away. Then it’s just a matter of transferring them to your phone. You will need a data cable or usb dongle to do so. Here are two videos…one on transferring files to it, the other on installing the apps. Transferring files to the LG900 with Data Cable and Installing Jar apps

You can find a compatible data cable here if you don’t have one already . They are like 6 bucks….http://saveonprepaidphones.com/lg900g_accessories

    @ Colin
I renamed my “Customised 1″ to ” Silent & Vibrate”. I went back and changed “Key tone” to “No Sound”, “Confirmation tone to “off” and “Start-up sound” to “Off”.

I would imagine that if I wanted it to vibrate and to not ring that I would not want any sound.

To activate this new mode, move the highlight to “5 Silent & vibrate” (which was just set up) and press OK key. When you want to return to normal, go to SETTINGS>PROFILES and then position the highlight on “Normal” and press OK key.

  456. OldMan
    February 25th, 2011 at 00:57 | #456

    @ Colin
I finally got a chance to test the SILENT mode and found that it didn’t vibrate. I was able to get the desired result by modifying profile “Customised 1”. Get into SETTINGS. Select PROFILES. Position highlight on “Customised 1” Press OPTIONS and rename it to something else, if desired. Then, select EDIT and reduce the RING VOLUME and MESSAGE VOLUME to zero. Turn VIBRATE ALERT on. Press DONE.

I tried the above and it seemed to work. Let me know if you have any luck with that.

Is there a setting for vibrate only? So when someone calls or texts it only vibrates instead of ringing and vibrating?

To activate silent mode, press and hold down the “J” key. This key has the # sign at the top on the left and a picture that I think is supposed to be a phone vibrating. I haven’t tried this, but I got it out of the LG GW300 manual.

The only way I have found to play multiple songs is by creating playlists. I know it may sound like a bit of a pain but its quite easy. From multimedia click Music, select Playlist, click Options, select Add new Playlist and name it. The phone now lets you put a check next to the songs you want on your play list. Check done to finish. To play, pick Playlists from the Music menu again, select your play list and on any song click Play. You can also Pick the Shuffle option form the Music menu and they will all in succession, randomly of course.

Sorry about your radio shack experience. They tried to make me pay the full price instead of the 29.95 sale price, saying that its only on sale if I buy a refill card from them. They are gyp artists, especially the radio shack store at the northshore plaza mall in peabody, massachusetts. So, I just went to Bestbuy in Saugus and got it at the sale price.

Thanks for replying. I checked the setting and it was HIDDEN. I looked it up in the GW300 manual and it said it recommended HIDDEN after it was paired for security reasons. I have decided to take the phone back for exchange even though I will lose some games I have purchased and may lose my accumulated minutes. The headset constantly disconnecting makes the phone pretty much unusable for my purposes. Hopefully the replacement will function properly. After you format, go back to the Camera and select Settings, click left Arrow to select the Others option, select Memory in Use, select External Memory and click select.

That message means the video is too long. MMS (text message) is not the best way to transfer your videos even with an sdCard. You won’t be able to text message a video that’s longer than a few seconds depending on what you record. Best way is to transfer the video to your computer either via bluetooth dongle, data cable or an sd card reader (if you have an sdcard and sdcard reader). You don’t need an sdcard to save videos but an sdcard lets you store more and longer vids as well as mp3s, apps and pics. As far as best sdcard, all brands are pretty much the same. Get an off brand that’s cheaper. The phone is supposed to support up to 16 gig but a 4 gig one would probably do fine and wouldn’t cost much. You can get a data cable and sd card for about $15 or less for the both. You can find compatible cable and sd card here

Sending and receiving photos worked just fine. When sending, it allows you to select the intended recipient and then select the intended phone number or email address for it to be sent to. I selected my email address and it correctly sent the photo to my email address. It was reduced to 640×480.

    February 12th, 2011 at 01:11 | #504

I formatted a microSD card in the phone and then created a folder on the microSD card using my computer (I physically placed the card in my computer’s card reader using the adapter that came with the card.). I called the folder “MP3s”, but it could be anything. I then copied the MP3 files into the MP3s folder on the microSD card. When I put the card in the phone, the MP3 tracks could be played. The microSD card is a 2GB size. It seems that the phone finds MP3 files no matter where they are placed or what folder they are in.

Check my other reply on your mp3 situation. As for upgrading, you can upgrade the following month when it comes time to buy new airtime. If Radioshack tells you no, then don’t buy from them. Get it online or somewhere else.

  507. dwight
    February 11th, 2011 at 15:26 | #507

It depends on where you transferred them to. The phone has 2 memory locations with similar folders, one is the internal mem the other is sd card. Check them both. Also depends on how you transferred them, the default location seems to be Other files on the internal memory when transferring via bluetooth. Check all the folders on both internal storage and sd card, not just the music one. If you don’t have an sd card then they may not have transferred. I highly suggest you get one if you don’t already, check here for compatible data transfer accessories. Internal memory is in the 12 megabytes range, just enough to handle 3-4 average mp3s tops. Here’s a video showing how some mp3s were transferred to the phone. File Transfer Video

Before I bought the phone I was thinking of the Unlimited plan $50. But the Radioshack Manager asked me, “Gil? Are vyou really going to be on that much? Go with the $25-750 Min Plan. that’s more than enough time.” So I did, and regret it. I’m just learning the phone so it took up Sooooooo many minutes in me just trying to log in2 my accts. I called him and asked if I can upgrade, just pay the difference and get the Unlimited plan and was told NO!! Still can’t seem to get my MP3’s in the Multi Media music folder..So they’re still on desktop. If any1 knows how? I’d appreciate it. Thanks. Good Phone though.@Bob Rooney

GSM vs CDMA is basically Verizon & Spring vs AT&T & TMobile, basically just 2 different phone technologies. Unfortunately, your zip is in a CDMA technology area which is why you see the Samsung 355C. The LG uses GSM technology so the LG will not work in your area.

  512. Phil
    February 10th, 2011 at 22:38 | #512

Ok not sure what gsm coverage is? But they do offer a Samsung 355C phone for zip 59715 – do both of these phones run gsm? If so can’t the lg work? thanks

  513. dwight
    February 10th, 2011 at 22:13 | #513

Without knowing your zip, its hard to say but it sounds like there is no gsm coverage in your area. That’s usually what it means when you don’t see a phone available (this phone is gsm). I would not buy the phone to take back because if there is no service there, then it won’t work.

First, you need to to download the app from getjar.com, pick the LG GW300 as the model. You then need to get it on the phone, easiest way is with a compatible data cable. The phone has internal memory so sd card is not required. Once the app is on your phone you need to install it. Here is a how to : Install app on lg900g

You can also get it directly by browsing to getjar.com from the phone’s browser, can’t vouch for this method because havent tried it. Nice phone. However, I do not like the “Browser” soft key on the “Home” screen as I have accidentally activated the browser several times and incurred charges. I cannot find any way to deactivate this key or require a confirmation like I could with my previous phone (a Motorola EM326g). The user guide does not cover anything but basics. You will not loose your minutes right away. You have 60 days to reactivate the phone. You will loose the minutes if you reactivate the phone after 60 days. Here is excerpt from the Tracfone terms of service:

“Airtime which remained at the time of deactivation will remain on your TRACFONE if it is reactivated within 60 days from the deactivation date. However, airtime which remained at the time of deactivation will be lost if your TRACFONE Service remains deactivated longer than 60 days.”

We received a notification that the 3 cent texting was no longer being offered on new activations when the new Unlimited and 750 plans came out. So if you use one of their regular cards, not one of the new unlimited or 750, the rate is .5 per text. If you use the 750 card, then the rate calculates to 3 cents. I have been unable to find any references to the 3 cent texting on their site so I am pretty sure that is no longer being honored. I believe they got rid of the 3 cent texting so they could focus on selling the 750 plan. If you got a 451, 401 or 355 before this change, you probably still have the 3 cent texting.

Arhg. Another gsm smart phone for straight talk. I love straight talk don’t get me wrong. In fact, it’s most ironic how I’m almost shackled (like to a contract) to the cheap price of their unlimited plan, and won’t look elsewhere because of it, but why o why can’t they introduce an affordable smart phone that runs on the cdma??

    January 25th, 2011 at 01:17 | #589

Its ok…needs alot of work… Always says not enough memory even after adding a 2gb mini card…plan is fair for unlimited talk and text. web sucks and facebook app really bites on this phone. Not worth 59.99. worth about 39.99

I bought the phone yesterday for 30 bucks at Best Buy. I was surprised at the cost. It was the only one of its kind that they had in stock at the time.

The text messages were that cheap for me, I guess you missed out on the promotion or something.

    @Laurie Jones
Nope, no sales for the phone. It’s a very small price to pay for the upgrade, at an excellent price of $60. The phone is a huge leap above the T401g and is waaaaaay lighter. Texting takes a little getting used to, but much better keypad. The mp3 player has visualizations and an equalizer, etc.

I bought the LG 900g and I’m using the 750 min 30 day plan. I get charged 0.25 minutes per text message, equal to $0.033 (3.3 cents) and $0.067 (6.7 cents) for the round-trip.

Hi, I just bought the LG900G and like it but I’ve noticed the links in my gmail are not “live” on this phone and I can’t just click on them to go the webpage in the email. Anyone know how to change this so it works?

If the email has an actual url in it, like http://www.nytimes.com/, then I can click on it. But if it’s just text that is clickable in an email, it’s not clickable in the email when I read it on this (Net10) phone.

    Thanks for any advice!

    January 13th, 2011 at 06:19 | #605

With any of their standard cards (200min,300min,600min, etc) texts are deducted at .5 min per text but each minute is 10 cents so each text works out to 5 cents per. With the $25/750 plan, the cost is 3.3 cents per minute/text. So the $25/750 actually works out to be a better all around value if your usage needs require that many monthly minutes. I would only go for the 30/300 if you don’t use more than 150 combined texts/voice minutes since that would give you a lower $15 per month rate vs the $25, with fewer minutes of course.

Hey i have a question for ya… i was thinking about getting this phone but i dont know how much the texts are. is it 2 1/2 cents or 3 cents? The $25 plan is not unlimited internet. This is a combined plan, so the 750 min is split between voice/text/data. Straight Talk would be best if you wanted unlimited web.

    January 11th, 2011 at 21:58 | #609

Hi all. Does this phone play the entire ringtone for messages and calls that can be purchased from NET10? I have an LG420g phone and for the ringtones I downloaded- it only plays 5 seconds of the tone I paid for! Hopefully this phone plays the full paid tone! Replies would be great on this!

The phone is offered by both Straight Talk and Net10. Both have excellent plans depending on your usage. While technically speaking, the phone is the same you cannot use a Net10 phone on Straight Talk and vice versa so be sure to pick which ever suits your needs. Net10 is offering a 700 min plan for $25/mo and Straight Talk a 1000 min plan for $30/mo. If you need unlimited, then go with Straight Talk for $45/mo.

Thanks, but I plan to stay w/Net10. It costs $59 w/free shipping at Net10. I buy bundles of minutes since I don’t use a phone enough a monthly plan. What I REALLY need to know is does this phone display the name or number of a sender when the phone notifies one that they have a new text message. I have to know that answer before I buy one.

I own the Net10 LG900G and tried to download the “opera mini” browser at “m.opera.com” as others have successfully reported in other forums. However, the opera site claimed this was a T-Mobile phone and said opera mini is not available. I surfed to the opera public page and downloaded opera mini version 4.2 anyway and the program was buggy (didn’t recognize certain keys, etc.). I downloaded version 5.1 and these problems were even worse. Does anybody know what’s wrong?

i just got this phone and the signal strength is not as good as my previous phone but i guess that all depends where you are at. with net10 it deducts a full minute for each text. the camera is not very good and doesnt have a flash. i was able to connect to the internet during the day, but right now around 6:00 i cant get on. also it comes with a charge for the house, but no earpiece, car charger, or data cable. i have looked everywhere online for a data cord, but i cant find one anywhere. hope this post helps.

Oh wow! I’ve been so hoping this would arrive in time for Christmas! As said in the article, this looks like the perfect phone to use with the $50 unlimited plan, especially the web side of things, which has felt a bit limited to date.
